Leh Ladhak India

Going to Himalayas was one of dream travel for both me and Shammy , Leh was planned almost a year back but last year since we traveled to golden triangular ie:Delhi Jaipur Agra , we though we will do it this year , we also came to know that we are the first few who have actually gone to Leh from Mangalore

Reason to start the journey was a marriage of shammy's colleague at Rudrapur near Nitintal , thus planned our trip from 22nd may to 3rd June 2009 , booking of flights and train was done 90 days in advance since it was summer holiday season , taking time out of business was a tough one , but thought if we don't do it now we may not able to do the same once we get old

We started our journey on 22nd night to blore in train , A slow moving train reached blore at around 8:00 in morning , our flight to Delhi was at 23rd morning we reached mid afternoon to Delhi met one of my friend Mr Barka Singh in Delhi, had a night train to Rudrapur for the marriage, 25th morning we reached rudrapur where we were taken to the hotel by Brides brother , after taking some rest we did Shopping and were ready for the marriage by evening , the only thing about the marriage was food food and food , we could meet the bride and bridegroom for only few minutes since the pooja was a on going process the groom entered the mantap around 10:00 pm , and the marriage would go on the wholel night , so we pushed back to our room next day we traveled to Nitital along with Mr. Rajshekar and his family who were shammy's colleagues
Ninital is small Hill station situated around a lake , the place is full of tourist , the only thing good about the place is the lake and the boat riding in the lake which was fascinating , we were recommended by the boat man a hotel near old market called Anupama and Hotel Shiv which was veg , so we choose Anupama since it was non veg , the food was a delight to our taste Bud's , most of the hotel near the lake served pathetic food , we were lucky to get good food by gods grace , The Sakelys at The Mall serves very good food and pasties is worth a try

We had our bus next day to Delhi ,we were again lucky to get a AC bus just introduced to Delhi in day time , we reached Delhi late night almost 11:00 pm so we directly went to the airport since our flight was 6:00 in the morning spending time inside airport was fun drinking coffee , eating snacks reading different slogan like " World is a book , person who has not travelled has just read a page","Not all person who wanders are lost" etc..

The view from the Flight was just stunning we were flying around 35ooo ft above sea level and the Himalayas was just beneath us and the outside temp -35degree , Leh is a small airport only 3 flight flying everyday only in the mornings, the view in Leh was just amassing it is surrounded with hills , cold wind blowing from all sides , we were welcomed by our driver cum Guide, we had our booking done at Hotel Kaal , the hotel has a beautiful view of the mountains , we had to take a full day rest due to lack of oxygen in the region and altitude we took diamox tables so that we don't get headaches due to lack of oxygen.

In the Evening we did shopping in Leh market and got some antique and little bit of item's , our next day trip was modified since we felt we should go and stay at Nubra valley in the tents , so we started early in morning went to see the monastery and Shrey Palace came back to our hotel at around 11 :00 picked up our baggages and the permit to go to Nubra Vally, We had picked up some fruits and Drinking water moved up around 20 kms on curve roads , after a stop over for a photo section we moved few meters and found that mobile was gone missing , then I had some fireworks of words from shammy as how I can loose anythings etc.we moved on thinking that we may have left it in hotel when we picked up our baggages, moving up further hill top we reached the highest motorable point in the world the Khardung La pass , the view was spectacular and the place was freezing any way below -25 degrees , we had some hot tea and a peg of rum which really help in that freezing weather.

The journey down to Nubra valley was long , but once we reached the place it was worth the drive , the place was inhabited by few people surrounded by mountain and lot of water flown from the mountain which joined the river , the people were very friendly localite would say " Juleya" which means hello

We stayed in the tents which had toilets attached to the tents , the place was so Windy the tents would shake really hard making all kinds of sounds with only candle light the night stay was a really an experience , Candle light dinner for two sure came free of cost

Our next day was trip back but since we wanted Camel ride we drew up to the desert had a Camel ride on 2 humped Camel , and drove back the hilly mountain roads back to leh , on the way back since they was soring sun the ice had started to melt thus water flowing on road

when we reached leh the first thing we did is to search for the mobile but could not get it any where , so we thought the mobile was really lost , but still little hope in the heart since our driver told us if any ladhikan would get it he would sure return it back
Day 4th in leh was the best, we traveled to Pangong Lake which was almost 160 kms from Leh and had to pass Chang La the 3rd highest motorable road in the world , the view was fascinating from hill top , the road down hill was long and rough since the ice had already started to melt , the water rushing drown from the hill would bring stones which was almost 3 to 4 ft in dia thus making drive dangerous , when we reached Pangong lake the view was just amasing ,the sight to behold , the marvel of gods creation , lake which is around 125 kms long out of which 25% belongs to India and rest to China , we spent around 2 hrs admiring the shades of colour in the water of the lake which consist of dark blue , Light blue , yellow and green , after having our lunch we drew back
The next day we had our flight back , we had to return with lot of memories and few photos and lot of experiences , We also found our Mobile which was found by general shop owner who gave it back to us , which was picked up by our driver and sent back to us with help of jet airways staff and Shammy's sister Nisha
